SHOCK REVALVING

All Nitron shocks are easily revalveable, this work would most commonly be executed during a routine service, as the shim stack can be altered prior to reassembly.

Nitron can adjust the damping characteristic using a variety of methods, from changing the main piston bump and rebound shim stacks, to adding bleed ports, to varying shim preload, the possibilities will depend on the type of damper; 3-ways offer the most flexibility. Nitron can do everything from tweak damping ratios to altering the progressing/digressive characteristic.

The most common scenario is when a customer has their dampers set to full hard all the time, in this case we would typically shift the adjustment range so that the full hard setting sits in the middle of the new adjustment range, thus providing potential to go stiffer or softer from that setting. This situation may have occurred because the use of the vehicle has changed from when the kit was originally supplied, for example a car that is now track only with stiffer springs fitted. Another example would be a motorcycle shock that was supplied to suit a 9 stone rider but is now owned by an 18 stone one who often rides 2 up, not only will the spring require swapping but the shock is likely to require firming up to work with the stiffer spring in damping the heavier mass.

It should be noted that dampers should never be run completely on the full hard setting. When set to full hard they will feel exceptionally firm and offer little compliance, this is due to the bleed ports being closed off, so to move the piston the oil must displace the shims off the piston face, to do this requires a much greater force than the free flow of oil through a small orifice. Overall grip is likely to suffer too as the damper cannot respond to the motion of the wheel input from the road surface. Much better is to set the shocks to a couple of clicks off full hard, this allows a small degree of oil bypass that will provide a much more rewarding drive or ride.

Sometimes customers would like their Nitrons valved just like a competitor's shocks, this is no trouble at all, just enclose the items to benchmark and Nitron will acquire all the relevant data using their shock dyno and then valve their own to match as best as possible.

If you would like Nitron to revalve your shocks then please send them in enclosing your full details and explaining your exact requirement. Nitron are of course happy to offer advice on changing the valving of your suspension kit. P
lease mark your parcels for the attention of the Servicing Department.

Prices:
Quick revalve - £20 per shock (new oil, new shims only)
Full revalve service 1-way - £75 per shock (as service but with revalve)
